Good evening I rebuilt the carbs on my 50hp mer outboard and I replace the inlet valves on both carbs. I reeinstalled them, got it running and tried to adjust the bottom carb and got the bottom mixture screw turned all the way in no change. The top carb does change, so I plan to removed them again because I am wonder about the float setting on the bottom carb. What is the best way to check the height adjustment. Also when you set the boat up for he winter what is the best way to prevent carbs from varnishing up. Thanks for your help Guy

Hello, I'm new to iboats but have found the site to contain a lot of good information. I have a 1984 50hp Mercury. Can you tell from what manual the posted pictures of the carburetor adjustments came from. I need to get a good manual and thought the illustrations were good in the post.
thanks, mark

Re: 1984 Mercury 50 Hp

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this question, but I have an 84 mercury 50hp. The serial number is 6485908. It has 2 carbs and is a 4 cylinder (4 spark plugs, which have been replaced). It will accelerate to about 10 mph, but when I go WOT, it bogs down, like it is trying to go, but no power. I want to rebuild the carbs but am having trouble matching up the carb kits with the serial number and hp. The carbs have WMA-1 3 stamped on top of one, and WMA-3 1 on the other. Any advice on where I can find a carb kit. I bought the boat about 10 years ago and I'm not sure what has been replaced in the past. I would appreciate any help.
