We have a alpha 1 with Mer Cruiser 4.3 EFI the type with water and oil pressure warning. The engine fires fine when cold and runs for approx 30 mins at which point we stop for a drink. After this time it runs for approx 10-15 secs then cuts out and wont re start. It would appear that the injectors are not feeding fuel over the butterflys. The water temp if fine, oil pressure ok at cranking. The coil pack/HT/Dissy is all new since out last outing.
When this problem happened we poured fuel into the engine and it ran but stopped as the injectors (2 off) were not feeding fuel. When the engine is put into the ignition position the pump runs for approx 2 secs and stops and the buzzer also stops. It does not reprime if you turn off and back on several times in say 30 secs (assume a pressure switch stopping over pressure. When however we disconnect the fuel line from the carb it only injects a small amount of fuel for say 2 secs and when cranking no fuel comes up the line. Fuel does not come up the line everytime to the carb when we reprime. The non return valve in the tank appears to work and fuel is in the line to the fuel filter.
Could this be a vapour lock of the hot engine bay? Before we stop we cruise for 3-4 mins at slow speed say 5 miles per hour. Its at this point she will not run when stopped.
Once we leave the boat for approx 2 hours (after being towed) to cool she fires stright up and runs.
