I need some help in a bad way from you experienced boat wrenchers. I just picked up a boat with a 91 200XP Evinrude--it wasn't shooting water so I changed the impeller-key is in right- and still no water. Blew out everything with air...still no water. took lower unit off again and attached hose to water tube with motor running...still no water. The water manifold is holding alot of water but nothing is coming out the tell. Water is coming out the fins in the bottom of the lower unit and it is pretty hot. The heads are getting pretty hot too. You can keep your hand on em for a couple seconds at most. If the cooling passages in the heads are clogged---is there a good way to unclog them? any other ideas? I didn't see a tstat on this either--just a pop-off valve I think it is. Thanks for any help--Jeff

Is this on muffs or in the water?

I changed my impeller a while ago and it wouldn't pump on muffs even though it always had, put it on the water and it pumps like a champ.

Pull the hose off the tell tale and make sure it isn't plugged, pretty notorious for picking up stuff and plugging.

Yes it has tstats, you need to get an OEM manual to find out where they are, makes working on your motor so much easier.

Thanks for the reply....this is on muffs and in water---still no tell-tale....I have to order a manual--I just picked this up 2 days ago and haven't had a chance to get one. Are you sure this motor has a tstat? I certainly can't see anywhere it would be...just the one spring loaded plastic valve deal. Is it possible the tstats are under the heads? I thought I read a post on here about tstats being under heads.....thanks...jeff

I got the engine hoist out and lifted the motor off the boat then took the complete lower unit/exhaust chamber off. Blew everything out and I used rtv sealent on everything to seal out any leaks. Put every thing back together and hooked up the muffs--still no water out the tell but the heads are cool to the touch! Looks like I'm headed to the lake to see how things work out--I heard sometimes you can't get water out the tell-tale on muffs. Guess we'll see.
