Default 60 yamaha 4 stroke please need help

I have a 2006 60f that i thought had a bad water filter. I took the boat out it ran good for about 15 minutes then started to lose speed, and bogg down, then finally stalled.then it would not start.so i put the new water filter the outboard.and it started and ran for about 10 minutes in the yard, then I shut it off.then took the boat back to the water where it idled fine, than tried to give it some gas planed out for 5 minutes than stalled out again.
any info would be a big help

I have a 40hp that was doing the same thing. Found water in the tank. changed tanks, filters and it still ran bad and stalled. Upon trouble shooting it more I found a bad coil. It would read ok for resistance until you moved the cable around then you could get a bad reading. I suggest checking for spark first.

we typiccaly dont see electrical problems on the Yamaha engines, however the F40 was a mecury marine built product with yamaha gray paint.
we did have quite a few problems with the Motorola electricals.
the F60 since 05 is a Yamaha design using yamaha eletronics.
however if you introduce water/debris into the vpor seperator and fuel rails manual removal is the ONLY way to make it run correctly, same goes for carbs.
once the water/debris passes the engine filters manual removal is the only option.
the 05 and later F60 does have a drain on the VST for aide in manual debris removal but if the high pressure pump filter has been clogged by the watery goo then cracking open the VST for filter maint is the only option.
best is to keep the goo out by careful fuel system inspection and use of a 10 micron water seperator and periodic checks, it will only hold so much then like a coffe mker it will overflow and feed the watery goo on to the engine.
ethanol fuels just make the issue worse, the ethanol will carry the watery snot past the filters and into the VST where it will clog the high pressure pump screen.
its an issue we are fighting but losing the battle.

Nolan,

I recently had similar problems with my 2004 f150 where it would seem to idle fine but once I was out on the water and hit full throttle the motor took off and within a few minutes it started bogging down. I was unable to go over 10mph the rest of the day. By the end of the day it would not even idle. I did all of the obvious, fuel filter, water separator, vst screen, nothing worked. I then sent my injectors out for service and low and behold the motor runs like new again. My motor only had 112 hours on it and 3 injectors were totally fouled and the 4th was half way fouled. It may not be your problem but it only costs $18 dollars an injector with a full test report of before and after, spray pattern, flow, impedance, etc. They even replace all of the o-rings, gaskets and internal parts for the $18 charge. Their normal turnaround time is 2 days.
