Default New Boat and I want to identify parts.

Hello All,

I bought a new (old) boat and I would like to identify the out drive and engine I have. I know that it it a Mercruiser, but what model? and does anyone know what motor this is? The out drive says 120 / 140 but are there different models?

Here are some pictures.

Thanks
Bill

It appears that you have a pre-alpha drive with a 3 liter engine. You need the serial numbers to identify it in great detail.

Here is a link with help identifying:

Fishmark,

It looks like I have an 888 but I am unsure though as the serial #'s seem to be inline. Mine is 3564352 and it does have the hump on the top plate. But the pictures of the Pre-Alpha or "R" outdrive look good but does nothing to reference the 888.

Do you know of a place that has the same info as the link you posted for the engine? It has a Mercruiser tag on the rear right with the # 3332442.

Thanks So much for the help. It is getting me started to identify what I have.

BTW ... The year and make of the boat is 1972 Silverliner 17 T Comoro I/O

I am fairly sure that your engine is the 3 liter since it is a 140. The 2.5 liter was only advertised as the 120.

If I'm not mistaken, the 888 was the Ford 302 V-8 engine.... which you do not have.

someone took care of that one for sure.really pristine condition with what i can see was not run in salt water.i don't like that inline fuel filter.that is a 3l.its what is sometimes called a iron duke, inline 4 cylinder.get a manual.if u take care of it will run forever and outlive the hull.

I had what was known as a Mercruiser "888" it was a 302 Ford V8 with a 2bbl 188hp. You have what looks to be a 140hp Mercuiser.

Your stern dive looks like a mercruiser #1 120/140 pre alpha. The engine looks like a 140.

You have a Mercruiser 140 engine, and a Mercruiser One drive.
Hree is a link to the service manual for your engiine and drive.
Hope you don't have dial up internet, as the file is 1.23 GB not those litle MB files.

Hello again guy's,

Well it's been a while since my last post and I am ready to begin this beast of a project. Someone sent me a link for the manuals that were down loadable last year or so ago and it seems that all the manuals I had down loaded for the motor and out drive were lost in my hard drive crash.

Does anyone have the links to the manuals for my motor and out drive?
