I have a 1984 Mariner 115 (inline 6) that will idle erratically from time to time. It will idle at about 500 rpm and then randomly and abruptly bump up to about 1000 rpm. When idling at the lower (500 rpm) speed it will sometime dies. At anything over a dead idle it will run smooth all the way to 5500 rpm. Someone suggested a switchbox may be going bad. I replaced the stator and trigger last fall due to another problem. I would think that if it was a faulty switch box, I would "lose" cylinders at all rpms rather than just at idle, but as I said, it runs great at anything above a dead idle. Any suggestions would be appreciated... many thanks!
