Tach wiring diagram 80 hp Merc / Mariner
Anyone have a tach wiring diagram for a 1979 Mercury Mariner 80HP? (ser. # 5144775)
I recently change power head from a 1973 85HP Merc, to the 80 Mariner. I see a BROWN wire disconnected and dont know where it goes. The tach worked on the '73.

Yes, I know that brown is tach. I bought a manual for the '73 trigger motor, and that is useless to me on this one. I will order a manual for the Mariner, but until then...........
I thought maybe someone had a pdf or page out of a manual they could post?
The brown wire should be attached to one of the yellow stator wires, at the rectifier. On those older distributor models the brown wire may have been attached to the brown terminal on the switch box. The newer models moved the tach signal to the stator.

Thanks Chris. This engine does not have a distributer, I got rid of the power head (1973 85hp Merc) and this 1979 Mariner power head has coils.
According to my mechanic, who is not that swift on electronics, there is possibly a difference in the type of tachometer that was used.
I am looking for details on a 1979 80hp Mercury Mariner.
