Is there any easy way to check and /or replace the water intake impeller on my outboard. I do not know if the impeller is made of brass or rubber. I am going on a fishing trip and am always leary of the impeller getting torn up and the engine over heating. I do not want to be stuck in the upper part of Canada with no boat. Thanks

Read these instructions. Pretty straight forward. No way to really test, that is what the tell tale does, shows you it is pumping water. The best test to show failure is on the way is to install a water pressure guage.
