I started getting water in my bilge and discovered I had a bad shift cable bellows. Our local marina wanted 1400-$1500 to do a complete bellows replacement. I don't have that kind of money to throw around so I decided to try it myself.
I would not have even attempted the job had I not gotten the confidence this site has provided. I have even decided to replace the gimbal bearing and shift cable while there. So far, everything has gone relatively well. I have all the bellows on and in place and the bearing&alignment completed. I am now installing the shift cable. Getting that thing started into the new shift bellows turned out to be a huge problem. After getting frustrated, I rememberd a tool we used on our baby calves to castrate them. It has four fingers that spread a tiny rubber band open. That little tool saved the day. It opened right up and allowed easy insertion of the cable. Now if I can just find where it is coming thru the transom and get it routed correctly, I can finish up in just a few more minutes.
All the prior posts have really helped, Thanks all.
