FLywheel issue

Hi folks,

I pulled the fly wheel on my 66' 40hp super seahorse electric. The flywheel key was sheared. I purchased a new key and was in the process of reinstalling in it. I noticed that the channel that the key fits into on the flywheel is rounded out. Is there a way to repair it? Or is it possible that when i replace the flywheel on the shaft and place loctite on it that this will lock it down so that this will not be a problem?

I will be torquing to 105 lbs per my manual specs.

the key actually is just to align the shaft and flywheel, the torgue and taper actually hold it in place. only one way to find out. try it. must be totally clean and free of oil.

DON'T locktite it!! You will play heck trying to get it back off in the future. Whoever installed it last time didn't do it properly or it wouldn't have sheared the key. In addition to what Tash just said, the nut must be torqued to 100-105 ft/lbs. Cannot be ignored or guessed at!!! How is the keyway in the crankshaft? This really bugs me that people don't do it right and the result is a trashed flywheel and usually the shaft also. Yes your flywheel is trash. OK, I'll calm down now.
