Default Mariner 9.9 m ignition problems

I have a 9.9m serial # 682CS05XXX that has no spark. I think it is a bad coil because the primary reads almost 0 ohms and neither plug wire has any reading to ground. the plug wires have 3.7Kohms between them.

Can anyone verify my suspision? Any recomendation when to get a relpacement? The coil has the part number CM62-22 CDI B.

I would also like to know if anyone can tell me year from the serial number.

Thanks,

Phil

Phil,
Before you order that coil remember there is no return on electrical parts.

A DVA Meter is the preferred tool to test stator, trigger and ignition module outputs to isolate your ignition problem.

The process of elimination works well and saves you many dollars over trial and error part replacement.

Thanks for the warning. What is a DVA meter and how do you use it to test those components?

Thanks,

Phil

Yes. If you want the year of the engine post the serial number.

All 9.9C engines were 6 digits so presuming that the S is a 5 your engine is a 1983

I missed a number that was hard to see. The serial number is:

682CS 051551

Is it still the same year.

I think this is a Yamaha power head, do you think the coil for a Yamaha would be the same?

Thanks,

Phil
