I actually have the same motor, with the same problem. I just bought the boat a month ago and the first time I took it out was this weekend. I wont rev higher than 3000 rpms. If I try to give it more throttle, the engine shuts off. I noticed that when I give it full throttle the flap on the intake closes completely, which is why I think the engine shuts off. It runs good and consistent, starts right up, just wont rev past 3000. When its in neutral I can rev up to 5 or 6 thousand with the fast idle lever so I know the motor is fine.
