Default aluminum bot & thru hull transducer

Can a through the hull transducer be used on an Aluminum boat? Seems to me the aluminum would be a sheild.

There are two types of through hull transducers.

1/ the type that you epoxy on the inside of the hull
I don't know if these will work or not.

2/ the type where you drill a hole in the bottom of the hull and the transducer bolts through the hull.
No reasn these won't work.

Best thing to do is email the manufacturer and ask them.
I have emailed both Lowrance and Garmin in the past with excellent results.

You can use a thru hull transducer on an aluminum boat. You "can" use a shoot thru on a hull that is 1/8" thk. or less but it's not recommeded.

I have never seen any manufactor recommend a shoot thru hull on a Aluminum boat or a fibergalss boat that has any wood or foam core.

I have seen some that swear it works. I would not try it.

It was just one of those I wonder things. I think I will stick with an external when I replace my fish finder.

Thanks

either way, you can't get a water temp reading from a shoot-thru-hull 'ducer.
