ok...I just got this boat and motor...rebuildin it, motor turns over but is in forward gear and can't seem to get it into neutral (electronic shift unit)
There is no spark yet, but turns over fine
With the trans stuck in forward...would that kill the spark?
No!!! That motor will ALWAYS be in gear when it is not running. It is shifted by hydraulic pressure supplied by an oil pump. When it is not running, the pump is not turning, thus no oil pressure, thus no shift. It defaults to forward gear when there is no oil pressure. Has absolutely nothing to do with the ignition system.
