'98 merc 60hp outboard/primer solenoid

Got a problem moving my boat...motor starts with no problem but it will not continue running unless I continue to hit my choke switch. I was able to hold the primer solenoid in position to continue running engine. Is it possible my primer solenoid is bad? Any feedback is helpful..

If you need to hold the primer in for the engine to run you have a dirty carb.
