I friend just gave me his dads old 4.5 mercury looks like new, brown trim, paint is not even wore off the prop. My plan is to replace the plug, will taking apart the carb and cleaning it do the same as putting in a carb kit? Any tricks? What type of cleaning fluid should be used. I did get it to fire but will not keep running, I did not want to continue to try and start it without cleaning the carb or a carb kit. It has not been started for 12-15 years. How do you check the fluid level of the lower unit? About half way down the lower unit it looks like a small screw is missing about 1/8? not sure what this would used for. Any information would be helpful
