Hi guys, Evinrude 1991 175hp , I have remove every bolt, shift rod is also loose, I can’t get the lower unit out, I think shaft is seize on crank shaft, here is what I did, I have the Motor upside down on a engine hoist, I try to get the lower unit loose that way, did not work, J have cut a piece of the lower unit, I’m able to see impeller housing and shaft, I did try hitting the shaft didn’t work either, Now I have the motor lifted about 1 inch from ground upside down with a lot of WD-40 spray thru shaft, is there anything else that I could try? How about anti rust, is there anything better than WD-40?
Go get some bp blaster and spray heavily. Find some thin wedges like wood chisels and start tapping one in the rear between the mid and lower unit. Just keeping working it till its free.
torque tab is the little fin you removed to get to the bolt that is underneath
do you have any play at all .wooden shims all around they must be hard wood beat in equaly i had to hang my motor on hoist and take banding
strap and strap lower to floor with banding strap and use motor hoist to put in bind then i had to take two flat bars and pry while some one jacked on motor hoist it popped free at that point it had taken me two weeks to get it off i was fixing to cut lower off with saw zaw ,dont give up it will come off ..
check your crank and drive shaft splines if ya get it off
search stuck lower unit and you will find many post most of them mine .
Guys Thanks so much for your help, I must say that after 3 hours hitting the shaft with a Hammer and wife turning the prop ad the same time, it finally got loose. I was able to get lower unit out, I was num but very very happy, I did destroy impeller housing to get to the shaft, I have to buy a water pump kit with Impeller, I look here on iBoats and eBay but no one have kit for a 1991 175hp 25 inch shaft. Does anyone know the part number of this water pump kit?
