I'm in the process of getting a 150hp Johnson to put on my 19'5'' Center Console Sundance Boat. It has a 75hp Force on it now but i'll be using it to go fishing, pulling tubes, and skiers. Is a 150 too much?

Re: Possibly Too Much???

if rated for 75hp 150 is double the rated HP, very dangerous, plus the legal liability.

With a rating of 75hp, 150 is too much weight and too much power. Your 75hp in good condition will pull skiers. Fishing and tubes are not taxing on a boat.

I looked at the Sundance website. It said that the SV186 (19.5') is rated for 90hp and "with speeds nearing 45 mph with a 90HP this is one quick boat for her size and weight".

If that is your boat, 45 mph with a 90 hp outboard seem perfect.

Don't do it as it's dangerous, insurance may not allow a claim, and if you hit somebody or someone gets hurt, you may open yourself up to liability.

Re: Possibly Too Much???

It's a F19CCR Sundance. My problem with the 75 is with me having 6 children, my wife and myself the 75 isn't enough. I know that with a 150 I can't run it wide open pulling them with the tubes but when fishin with 4 ppl with all the gear its alot of weight and it puts a strain on the motor and i'm already down to a stainless steel 13 pitch prop.
