1972 Johnson 4 cyl 125hp. I followed the winterizing steps in the forum, but am wondering if there's anything special or any advantageous moves I can make to have things go smoothly before I start it up with muffs on. Also, should I be waiting to make sure that it won't freeze again? Thanks!

I would say just get some fresh gas, make sure the battery is full charge, spray some fogging oil in the spark plug holes for some lube and let her rip. Also make sure the tell tale hose is not plugged like mine was, so your motor can pee normally.

Does not really matter if it gets below freezing again as long as you store it in the down position.
After it was fogged when you put it up i would charge the battery, throw a new set of spark plugs in and fire it up..

I always decarb in the spring along with new plugs as Gary stated, but that is just personal preference.

May also want to have a look at all wiring and connections and ensure that none of the wiring is 'crunching' when flexed and all terminals and connections are shiny and clean, no corrosion from the winter layover, then re tighten.

Obviously it's going to smoke like a chiminey with the fogger. Would it be worth waiting for the new plugs (or just reinstall some older ones for the time being) until after the fogging/smoke session? Assuming they weren't fouled to begin with.

Thanks, guys!

It will burn the fogging oil out in a few seconds running on the muffs. Then do the de-carb if you like then the new plugs..
I usually de-carb just before i winterize, then fog it.Everyone has their own routine..;)

Re: How do I dewinterize?

I have been following Gary's procedure for nearly twenty years. Works for me.

1967- 3hp Evinrude
1983- 9.9 hp Evinrude
1988- 6 hp Evinrude
1988- 25 hp Evinrude

I need more motors, but the General in our house hold does't agree.......
