I am confused, I have a 2002 Glastron SX175 w/3.0 volvo w/sx outdrive -- I was preeping my boat for the spring and when i hooked up the elephant ears, the engine was not sucking watter thru the engine. First thought, pull impellar. Good to go(gtg), checked for leaks in hoses, all gtg. Ck'd outdrive gear oil. Oil Milky, I dropped the lower unit, ck'd the seperator tube, no leaks and the rubber boots looked good. Also ckd for obstructions in the water screens. I also dropped the upper unit, ck;d the hoses goin from the unit through the transom. I see no reason why my pump is not picking up water. Any help

as far as the impellar goes, i pulled it off to make sure it was good. No problems with it, but put a new one on it anyway, use that one as a backup if needed. I did the squirt test and nothing

The question about the impeller wasn't asking whether the current one works. It's possible that if a previous impeller blew up, the pieces of it may still be trapped in the water passages.

Have you tried backflushing the system from inside the boat? Sounds to me like there's some kind of obstruction in the system.

I have not tried back flushing yet, but will try that -- i was able to force water through the system with out any problem but not back flushing. as far as the impellar goes. I have never had one to break apart. I have always stayed on top of preventative maint... and its a 1 owner. I learned my lesson on a different boat. Thanks for the info

Ck'd outdrive gear oil. Oil Milky,

When that happens, you drain the gear lube and do a pressure and vacuum test to find the leak. Don't just take it apart piece by piece looking for a sign.
YOu probably won't find it.

Are you possitive you had the hoses put back on the pump properly after winterizing?

Air leaks at the pump will cause it not to pull water from the drive. When you looked at the impeller, did you check (or replace) the oring?

Does your engine have a hose on the engine with a blue cap for flushing? Is the cap tight? If not, it will suck air, and not water.

Re: motor doesn't suck -- confused

The reason I started pulling things apart, prior to winterizing I had done some minor maintenance in the lower unit, i was hoping that i didnt install the water tube correctly and that it might be a quick fix. not so much.

The hoses going to the pump are on correctly, ensured the water supply line and engine feed lines or on the correct inlet/outlet.

As far as the blue cap for flushing, was the first thing i checked. no leaks and no air from here. And when i replaced the impellar, I replaced the o-ring, common practice. Then when i still did not get water, i removed the housing once again, coated it with petrolatum just to get a better seal. No luck once again.

I will try the presure test, and still need to back flush. Again thanks for the help, and if you have any other info i would appreciate it.
