Im replacing my 90 force outboard with a 120 force outboard. I wanted to know if there were any gaskets or something to go around the screw between the motor mount and the boat. It looks like there was a caulk there before, but nothing to keep the metal from touching the boat. Also, Is the caulk stuff to keep it waterproof?

Re: outboard engine mounts

If you are talking where bolts go through the hull to bolt it on, yes, its just for a water seal to prevent water getting into the transom and roting it out. Get some 3M4200 (tube) and slather the holes and bolts. Thats all..

Re: outboard engine mounts

If you take a countersink and chamfer the holes about 1/16 or so, whatever you use to seal the bolts ( I prefer black RTV silicone) will fill the chamfer and act like a gasket.

While you have the engine off the boat: Force engines do not have a lot of bearing area on the transom. I like to put a hard or aircraft grade aluminum plate about .080 thick and 12 X 16 inches in size on the transom where the clamps will attach. Diamond plate is not acceptable; it is relatively soft. You can also use 1/16 stainless but it is real expensive and a bear to drill.
