I own a 1997 60 hp 3 cyl 2 stroke engine with tiller.
am planning to convert to consol steering and control.
have already puchased mercontrol off ebay ( have been told mercury controls fit)

have been keeping an eye on previous threads and have have deduced the following..

1. mercontrol has 2 levers ..
LARGE LEVER ( both throttle / gear shift -there is a nuetral mark on casing)
however there is no button on large lever to stop accidental engaging gear..is this an indication of a very old model.
SMALL LEVER ( warm up lever) is this a function supported by the mariner engine?

2. the choke button is electric on mercontrol..however the mariner only has a primer bubble in lieu of a choke..so there will be a redundant wire in the mercontrol harness

3. the ignition switch ....engine does not have a starter motor as yet but does have a kill switch. Can the ignition switch incorporate the kill switch? or is this best put on dash.

4. engine has an alternator output to battery.....i assume this is a direct connect and need not route through mercontrol

5. mercontrol wiring harness - is there an addaptor to suit connection to mariner engine

6. mercontrol has a black rubber connector (3 - slots) at the bottom front - is this to attach the tacho to...if so does the mariner have the wiring for this.

Am thinking to ignore the electrical connections thru the mercontrol and dash mount everything.

One last thing..the mercontrol is side mount ..but am planning to mount vertically ( center console ) and if possible reset lever position if possible.

cheers

Re: mariner engine / mercontrol compatibility

mercontrol single lever control throttle / gearshift ..no button to protect from accidental engagement..is this normal in old controllers?
