8HP Mariner fuel leak from shaft ? ?

Mariner 8M was running very well. But then it started cutting out, and then spewing fuel into the water. Just cranking it out of water I see fuel dripping out of the shaft where the lower unit bolt on. No fuel in the base of the cover. I suspect a gasket went bad some place at the base of the motor leaking into the shaft ? How much work ? Part available ?
