Default 1993 70hp evinrude starting problem!

i have a 1993 evinrude 70hp it has been a great engine , exept today !
started up at the dock no problems went about 2 miles out and it just died , its gettin lots of fuel ,vro disabledand running pre mix 50:1 , got towed in and back on the trailer, back home and on the muffs fires up again no problem, runs for about 5 min dies again won't start again , was thinking power pack or the signal wires to power pack , was looking to hear some input on this ?

when it dies, check your spark on all cylinders, what do the plugs look like. if you have spark on 1 or 2 and not 3 completely change the placement of the coils, and see if the problem follows the coil. if so replace coil. if no spark at all. here are 6 pages with test, find your motor.

nope it never ran hot , had good stream the whole time , ran it on muffs for 5 min intervals over the last week to make sure it was ok for it's first run of the season which was on the sunday then it died anyway LOL , checked the spark tonight when it wouldnt start had spark on all , but it looked weak , i'm a automotive mechanic , so i have a mechanical background is it possible for the power pack to give the coils a poor charge resaulting in a weak spark ??

yes that's possible - trigger, stator & powerpack output measurement requires multimeter with DVA adapter.

Have a spark tester? Should jump a 7/16" gap outside the cylinder.

pee stream tells you the pump's working, but doesn't guarantee it's getting good circulation - this might be a good time to test the overtemp horn "just in case". Find the temp switch, in back at the top of the cylinder head, brown wire, peel back the insulation sleeve and touch bare wire to head with key "on" - should sound a steady tone.
