Hi guys

New to this forum but was told this was the place to come by a friend

I have recently taken to boating and have a Mercury 80hp 3 cylinder with a quicksilver control unit. Everything had been running fine but today the control unit started to emit a high pitched continuous warning tone.

The tone will be on as soon as the key is turned from the off position and is even on when the engine is not running and even comes on before I try to turn the engine over.

The engine is pumping water and seems to be running high with the exception that the idle speed probably needs tunred up a bit.

Has anyone had a problem like this before of have any ideas before I have to contact the dealer.

If it starts with a cold motor when the key is first turned on it's the sensor if it does it at idle the impeller has a set in it.

The alarm is at idle even before the engine is started.

Sorry for all the questions but pretty new to all this.

What does it mean that the impeller has a set in it - is this an easy fix or am I looking at something expensive.
