87 mariner starts every 5th try

turn the key & nothing happens four out of five times. Fifth time she starts right up. What should I be checking? If starter replacement required where can I get some guidance info. I can do a car....

If there is a clicking at the engine you have a bad solinoid, if nothing happens hold the key in the start position and wiggle the shift lever to see if it's the neutral switch. if all of that don't help go back to the engine and arc the solinoid to see if it's a switch or wiring problem.
