1984 90hp Johnson Motor shifts fine but theres too much throw in the throttle lever before rpms start to rise. From the point the lever shifts into forward at the 11:00 oclock position rpms dont start rising until the lever moves down past the 9:00 oclock position then theres not enough throw left to gain rpms. With the reverse side same at the 3:00 position and theres practically no gain in throttle. How do u adjust the throw in the arm to attain more throttle in both forward and reverse

Re: Play in throttle

you may have a stretched cable. there is a adjustment trunion nut at the motor connection. but properly, connected should not need adjusting. motor in neutral shifter in neutral, remove the throttle cable. now with the linkage all the way back in idle postion, adjust the trunion nut, so the end slips on the linkage with out moving any of the linkage parts. reset trunion in slot and secure. if this is not correct, you may need a new cable, or need to do a link n sinc.

Check to see if roller pin is broken off throttle level cam. It is just braided on from factory.
