broken magnet in ignition coil?

I just bought an early 79 inline 6 90hp with the last of the distributor ignitions.
All of the ignition system needs to be replaced but the compression and lower unit are good.

As replacement parts, I have got a couple of old ignition coils, 332 4895, that ohm test good on both connections and to ground but the magnets are cracked.

Question: I thought everytime a magnet breaks, it forms another north south pole, do cracked magnets hurt the ignition? Or does that make any difference for this?

Thanks.

You are correct, no cracks are allowed, replace them.

On the distributor motors, the stator only charges the battery. I would therefore think the cracked magnets are of no consequence. make sure they do not come loose.

That motor has one coil, and it is the cheapest part of the ignition system. I recommend you replace it is it is no good. Sierra carries those coils. Look around for a good used or search the web for the switchbox and trigger if you need one.
