I have just restored a 1965 Johnson 9.5 low profile engine with a lot of help from the people on this forum. I am wondering though, on the front of the motor, kind of behind the transom mount, there are two screws with phillips heads, that screw into a motor mount. It looks like these screws just hold spacers, that do not actually hold the outer cowling to the engine at all. Can anyone tell me if these mounts are supposed to hold the cowling tight to the motor mount, or are these just supposed to position it? If anyone has another engine like this maybe they could post or send a pick of these screws so I could see how they are supposed to look. Thanks in advance for your help.
