I have some sort of steering device on my Intermediate Housing (OMC 800 Stringer - '84) when I pulled it that I don't know a) what to call it and b) more importantly how to remove it. The manuals don't give steering due justice imo and I might need to swap IH's in the near future because of bolts breaking off and general corrosion. I've taken the top face off by removing the bolts from this steering device (after first removing the IH) and still didn't see a way to unattach it. It definitly turns the steering gear in the upper unit using power steering features. I just can't accept that this is part of the Intermediate housing. None of the IH exploded views have it. Please advise on removal if possible. (See pic)

Go to EPC.BRP.com and drill down to the power steering page.

1- Remove outdrive
2- locate number 9 in the drawing and drive out the pin.
3- slide shaft out the back of the IH
4- unbolt the rest of the gear box and remove.

Very rare, really no need for it with True Course steering.
