Default 1992 Mariner 200 Hp. Loss of tac signal !

Recent purchase of rig with a Mariner 200 Hp Carb engine, overall really great shape. Tact doesn't work. Traced the loss of signal to the grey lead @ voltage regulator module. Engine has dual systems. changed tact lead to other module connection. Worked for about 20 mins. then lost that signal! However the regulators outputs still look normal! Continuity checks to tact from engine module lead. Changed to new quicksilver tact,,,, no help!
I am electronically savvy and have some equipment.

Suggestions....recommendations? Thanks for any inputs!

Usually the regulators go, and take the tach signal with them. I've had both fail on mine, one at a time. The early clear potted 5 wire ones are notoriously weak. The black potted 6 wire ones are a bit stronger. CDI is best.

Pull your battery down a bit, then disconnect the regulators one at a time. I'd be willing to bet neither one is putting out what it should.

hope it helps

John;
Really appreciate the input! As you know....you are exactly correct! I have followed this procedure and there is '0' output from the reg's! I also pulled the two yellow wires and am getting 28 VAC out! Not good! lol......

After closer inspection I find the reg's are the 'originals'....Hummmm! I have a pair of the CDI's on a Fed-X truck as we type!

Good boating! Stay safe!

Thanks again!

Fred
