Cavitation

Hi,

My 130hp Yammie does 5600 rpm with a 19" prop so it appears to be correctly propped. When turning tight there is some cavitation. The cavitation plate, when the motor is trimmed, is level with the lowest point of the hull, which is a monohull.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Re: Cavitation

What your talking about is actually ventilation. It is not unusual for turning to cause venting.Generally for most efficient performance it is good to have the motor as high as possible. The less in the water the less resistance.
Be sure the bottom is clean and nothing mounted that may disturb the water near the prop.
A stainless prop should help the venting and may even allow a little more height.Sometimes a dealer will let you try props if you intend to buy.
I'm not an expert but I would start with the same pitch. But I also would
want to try a couple of pitches.
