Default Can't find right part for 1974 Evinrude 40.

I am about to get my 1974 Evinrude 40 longshaft, model 40455-S running, but can't seem to find the right water pump repair kit for it. Iboats doesn't sell one for a an Evinrude 40 below 1981, so that is out. For motors that iboats doesn't carry the kit for, I usually get the parts from ishopmarine.com. Anyway, that site gives me this page.

As you can see, the 1974 40 doesn't have the kit available without the housing. Is there some compelling reason to replace the housing too? Normally, I would consult my manual, but I won't have access to my manual for the next little bit, and at least need to get the parts ordered before then.

Looks like Sierra sell the one without the housing. I feel it's always good to replace the housing as part of the kit. But many times they are fine and can be reused with no problem. Only way to tell is remove the old pump and inspect it. Sierra part number is 183379.

The impeller for your motor should be very easy to obtain at your local OMC/BRP dealer. The BRP part number is 0386165

list the kit w/housing as #384602 or you can order the parts separately there also. this is the BRP direct site.

Alright, that has gotten me closest. But, could you tell me how you found that, so I can a) cross check that number to make sure there is no typo, and b) use that search feature in the future? Everywhere I looked, I couldn't find anything linking that part number to my motor.

Thanks.

The Evinrude site has already been posted by Tashasdaddy. You can convert the numbers to sierra at the Sierra website http://www.sierramarine.com/

I am feeling somewhere beyond incredibly stupid right now, but I couldn't find the kit with or without the housing on Tashasdaddy's link.

the kit number is in a rectangular box, in the diagram, it is not listed on the parts list.

you can buy directly from that site, or go to dealer, or buy sierra.

For what it's worth I show 386602 for the water pump kit for your motor in the 1976 OMC Parts & Accessories brochure. The impeller alone is listed as N/A after 1973 models. They also listed 386716 for the H.D. chrome water pump kit (good for heavily silted or salt water useage).
