Hello to everyone,
I am thinking of parting with my 1989 Chaparal 162XL 16 foot fish/ski boat with 88 horsepower SPL Evinrude with a 1994 Bayliner model 2605GA Rendezvous deck boat that has a 1995 Evinrude XP 200 horsepower outboard and includes the Tandem Axle trailer with guides, with bimini top, depth/fish finder, toilet, sink, boat cover, am/fm cd player with 4 speakers . I don't have the model number but that is what I have so far from him as stated above. How reliable is the 200 horsepower XP Evinrude outboard? He said he had to disable the VRO and mix the oil with the fuel instead. Am I making a big mistake buying this boat. He has it listed on the Craigs listing for $6,500.00 and said it runs and looks great and I saw pictures of it and it looks nice. I just wanted to get your guys honest opinion.

That sounds like a fair price. That is a quality outboard, as is any for that matter (in general) that has been properly maintained. Before making a purchase of that size be sure you properly look over the boat/motor.

Is the floor and transom sound? No rot? Tap the transom with a rubber mallet. Check the compression on the outboard. Remove the bottom drain screw from the lower unit and check for water intrusion. Water is heavier than oil and will sit at the bottom of the gearcase, so leaky gearcases will have a milky/ white substance exit first. Make him fire it up and lets it run for you, ensuring it does not over heat.

Also does all the applicable paperwork come with the boat/motor/trailer that is needed in your area?

I would not worry about him pre mixing his fuel, many follow the same route.

you've been running an 88spl, so mixing is old school for you. just get use to 20 gallons and hour, instead of 9 and hour.
