1971 85HP Evinrude Head Gasket Install

hello,

i would appreciate hearing back on how to properly install the head gaskets on my 1971 85HP evinrude. i have heard to install them dry. is this the correct way to install them? does anyone use any particular type of sealer?

does it matter which side faces the block?

If it is the OEM gaskets with a shiny surface, that is sealer and do not add anything else. Aftermarket gaskets, look and see if they have the shiny coating. I'm not sure whether they are symetrical or not. If they are, it doesn't matter which way. Otherwse, put them on the way that they fit.

And be sure to torque to spec, in the correct order.
