Starting instructions for older Mercury 9.8
Having bought a used boat with an older Mercury 9.8 motor, I need some friendly advice on the starting procedure for this motor. Three knobs (facing engine) appear to be Choke, Fuel connection and ?(the writing is worn off); the third may be an electric starter button, but I don't really know if this engine starts electrically. I assume you: 1) Put the throttle handle in the "Start" position 2) turn choke to the right(?) 3) Make sure gear level (left side) is in the up position(?) 4) Crank until it catches 5) turn choke off 6) crank until it runs and let idle for a minute or so. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray
