Hello all.

I have a Mercruiser (Chev 350) inboard with a Velvet drive transmission.

The end of the transmission cooler has popped off. It looks like the cooler itself is cast aluminum and the end is tin of some sort.

What is the best way to fix this? Or should I buy new?

Thanks!

Randy

Moving to I/O issues.

You'll get a better response there.

Take it to your local radiator shop. Have it cleaned, the end resoldered back on and pressure checked.
The only time I have seen the ends come off, was because they froze. What about the rest of your engine/drive/transmission/anything that had raw water in it.
Was it properly winterized?

Thanks Don.

Great idea about the radiator shop.

Yep. The boat was PROPERLY winterized. I saw this as a leaking issue towards the end of summer last year and had it on the list to fix before this summer.

I've fixed a couple of smaller PS coolers that way with no problems. But I am not good a soldering like that. Radiator shops are.

Just to let you know. Radiator shop cost $30 and they did an awesome job.

Thanks for the info. (Should have thought of that myself.)

Great, those coolers are going for about 220 bucks at a Merc dealer.
