We took 91 bayliner with johnson 88hp spl to river. Unloaded it pumped portable gas tank ball till hard pushed in key and it crunk right up. Rode for about 5 minutes stopped to fish so turned off engine, did same thing when was ready to ride again and would not crank to save my life.Tried rasing the high rev lever when trying and all. Should I not Push the key in to prime it except the 1st time cranking when cold or what? Also should i leave the vent on the gas tank open or close after it cranks? It was a bad day had to get towed in. We always have trouble cranking after it runs a while, but it crunk right up without hesitation the 1st time when 1st put it in the water. PLEASE HELP

edit, no email addy's.

pushing the key in is like a choke, it activates the primer solenoid, to inject fuel into the intake. you are probably flooding it.

When running the engine, the tank must be vented. If not, the tank will create a vacuum as the fuel goes down, eventually making it impossible for the pump to suck fuel. Within 2-3 hours, I usually don't re-prime my engine once it is started
