Re: How to re-install the lower end of a Johnson 115 HP Outboard
welcome to iboats!
There are some specifics that vary depending on model. But here's the generalities. Shift rod height adjusts by screwing it in or out. The manual will give you the height it needs to be. Put some molly lube on the driveshaft splines (but not on top), and there should be a rubber o-ring just below the splines. Make sure the water tube guide and grommet are in place. Put some gasket sealer on each half - manual calls for OMC Adhesive M, it's been superceded by a 3m product (forget the name), I've used permatex before with no problems. Shove it in, rotate the flywheel just a bit to mesh the splines. Two bolts each side, one recessed in the trim tab cavity, and another covered up by the trim tab. Install the trim tab. Connect the shift rod under the bottom carb. Might have to disconnect the shift cable from the linkage before reconnecting the shift rod. Then make sure the shifter is in the same gear as the l/u to reconnect the cable.
What year and model number?
Just curious...why was it removed?
