Default Wood Flooring vs Carpet on a Capri

I have a 1996 Capri 1950 CL that I bought used. The hull, seats, side carpeting/panels and engine are in good shape. The only area that's lacking is the carpet, which is worn through to the wood in the aft section of the boat. I would like to update the deck covering and wanted to know if I have any options besides re-carpeting? I've always disliked carpet on small boat decks. It get's dirty, wet, retains water and is hard to clean. Is there any reason why I can't remove my carpet, fill and sand the underlying wood (which appears to be in good shape with no rot) and then paint it all in a good quality marine epoxy paint? I'm thinking white to keep the heat down on bare feet and adding some grit to the paint to reduce slippage. Anyone with experience or advice in this area would be appreciated.

Safe Boating.

After doing what you need to do on the deck - your plan sounds fine - you could replace the carpet using snap on clips. That way when you want to remove it just take it out, let it dry and you're good to go. Did my smaller boat like that and it works like a charm.
