I have just picked up 83 Proline WA, and it seems to be in good condition for its age (no cracks @ transom, no weak floor issues, only cracks in rear corners of cabin where it meets walk around, which doesn't seem major to me). Now that I have read some threads regarding rotted wood stringers, is there an easy way to look beneath deck, or is spongy deck going to be the first clue? Thanks for any reply.

Re: condition of 1983 WA hull

when i buy a boat that is in question, i use a 2 inch hole saw, and cut a hole in the deck, then take a 1' piece of PVC, cut teeth in one end, use it as a core cutter, to take out a couple of piece of foam. you will know immediately if it is wet. wet equates into rot, if not now, in the near future.

if dry, install the cut out plug with 3m 5200, and good to go.

What brand of boat and what type of deck does it have. If it's non-skid the chances of stringer rottening out isn't all that great.

You can usally get to the stringers thru the fuel tank acess. If nothing else you can always use a moisture meter on them.
