72 john/rude 9.5 No Spark!

I have a Johnson 9.5 9R-72M and a Evinrude 9.5 9222 Both are 1972's. I cant get a spark from either one. I have the handle set to start but nothing. Am I doing something wrong or is there something else I shouold be looking at? Thanks

Disconnect the kill switch wires at the connections near the flywheel. The wires are probably dryrotted.

Thanks ezeke, that was the problem with the Johnson Take a look at the photo. Now my next question. How do I fix my hair? LOL....

Well, got the johnson 9.5 9R-72M running. only for about 20 min. Ran great, shut it down pulled rope, starts right up. Did this 6-7 times. Then shut it down, pulled rope. Nothing? Tried a few more times and nothing? Any ideas.

Switched to the evinrude 9.5 9222. Disconected the kill button and still cant get a spark. Any ideas on this one?

On the second one, pull the flywheel off and carefully clean everything. That might be a good idea on the Johnson as well.

Yep, wishing and hopeing won't get you anywhere. You gotta get in there and fix it.

Not a problem pulling the flywheel. What should I be looking for once I get the flywheel off?

You could get really lucky and find that the points have fouled; a small flat file or even a emery board could clean that up.

Just so happens, I have a brand new set of points for the rude. Im sure they are the same for the Jon. I will pull the flywheels on both and let you know what I see. Thanks
