Does my motor have a rectifier?

Great forum -- my first post!

I recently bought a boat/motor/trailer package with a 40 hp 1989 Johnson Tracker -- model J40ELCEC. I don't have the manual for the motor, unfortunately, and am very new to boat/motor maintenance.

I'm currently shopping for batteries, and thought it would make a difference if the motor has an alternator/rectifier. Does this model include one? How can I find (and recognize) it?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
