I have a 1985 35hp evinrude I got done servicing my engine, i replaced the impeller, and cleaned the carb out. When i was all done, i was shifting the throttle and when i tried to come back into neutral from forward, it would not go. I removed the linkage to discover it looks like the cable is broken. I am pretty sure that is the case, but i want to be sure before i spend money for a new one.
The engine shifts through all the gears using the shift lever on the side of the motor, so that has me thinking it's the cable. I cannot get the remote back into neutral either which makes me think the cable snapped and is stuck inside the rubber casing.
