79 evinrude 35hp loss of power while in gear

It idles fine but while under way it seems that I only have 1/2 the rpm's. I cleaned the spark plugs as well as replaced the fuel pump. I new to working on boat motors so I will appreciate any helpful info.

well i am no expert by far but maybe its your lower unit tring to lock up

Welcome to iboats Matthew.

It is likely that you are dropping a cylinder while under way.

Start by checking spark and compression. The compression should be about 100 psi, but more important, even on both cylinders. The spark should jump the gap on an inline tester a good 1/4 of an inch with a bright blue ZAP!! If these check out you will need to look into fuel delivery.
