The S.L.O.W. Overheat Warning System is activating, but the engine itself is not overheating.

When it activates I get a continuous horn and engine will not go over 2500 rpms.

Is there a module that needs to be replaced?

If so, how hard would it be for someone fairly good with mechanical stuff to do?

Last question: Where would such a module, if that is what I'm looking for, be available?

Thanks! Otherwise, the boat is still running great.

#1 . Make sure tan wires are not routed near splark plug wires
#2 .Make sure engine is not overheating!!
#3. Disconnect tan wire on sensors 1 at a time. If this fixes problem replace bad sensor.
#4. If this fails replace pack.

I know that it depends on the model, but I did not know that you had S.L.O.W. on the 1990 150 crossflow.

What I think you may have is a fuel obstruction alarm that gives the same continuous horn alarm as the overheat.

Ezeke -- that is true, but the engine also won't run over 2500 rpm. That tells me it's probably the module or a sensor.

Faztbullet -- thank you for your reply. Now, where are the sensors that I need to look at located. I don't have a repair manual, but if you give me a hint I know I'll probably be able to find them.

If not, well, then I guess I'll buy a manual!:D

Thanking you in advance!

Re: HELP!1990 Johnson 150 VRO S.L.O.W. Overheat Warning System

Your engine has one temperature switch on each cylinder head. Each switch should have a bullet connector on a tan wire that you can disconnect to eliminate that switch.

The VRO circuit and the fuel obstruction circuit are isolated from the S.L.O.W. circuit by a blocking diode imbedded in the wiring harness. If voltage reaches the diode, it will be destroyed and the warning signals will enable the S.L.O.W. function.

There is also a bullet connector at the power pack with the tan wire that will disconnect the whole warning circuit from the power pack but will leave your engine unprotected by S.L.O.W. (You should still get the warning horn)

Any more info would be helpful. . .I'm running with this now. I'll let you know what happens, if I get to the right spot. (smile)
