I recently finished the installation of a helm tower on my Pathfinder with a (year 2001) 200hpdi and I used the wiring bundle from one half of a Yami dual engine installation. Everything works great with one exception:
Both tach's are giving me some incorrect info. The RPM reading is good but both have a blinking low oil indication (and I'm sure the oil is fine) and also, the trim indicator is way off. The two tach's are a little different - the orig is a 2001 and the one I installed is a 2003. Also, I'm assuming the dip switches are set correctly since the 2003 was used on a 2-stroke.
Before the installation and connections the lower tach was displaying just fine....no blinking and an accurate trim indication.
Re: Yamaha - one engine - two tach's, false readings
Well here's the conclusion of the problem:
A friend of mine had a Yami tech come over and he found the problem right away. When the upper station tach was installed the connections were reversed! I had actually thought about checking that out since the connectors are identical (with different colored wires) but I was hesitant to do it for fear of frying something (I'll stick with fried snook and redfish!).
So once that was corrected, the trim indicator still wasn't working.....that was just a matter of loosening the sticky sender at the motor. I'm a happy guy now!
