Question on 50's TD and TN lowers

Is a late 40's TD L/U the same on the early 50's TN's?
I just can't remember...thanks..

Nope, and they won't interchange - bolt patterns are different between the direct drive TDs and the neutral enabled TNs. The TN's used a rubber star style impeller on the driveshaft, while the TDs used a plunger type on the propshaft...

One I got here has what looks like a 2 inch spring where the D/S goes just before it goes into the guts (rest is gone..impeller.)
That a TN Scott?

The TN has a neutral clutch--the spring you see. The TD is direct drive--no spring.

Thats what I thought. This one does. Just could not remember where the spring was on the TN's..thanks!
