Default 1994 115 Mariner Power Trim and Tilt issue

First of all let me state that I just found this site and there is a ton of knowledge here! Great site so thanks in advance!

Here's the situation, I just purchased a new to me boat with the aforementioned 115 Mariner attached to the transom. The motor needs some work, new prop, power tnt unit needs some TLC as well. I have the prop taken care of but I am at a loss on the trim and tilt.

I called the local marina and they stated that for a rebuilt unit installed we are looking at 1,500....Not sure if I can salvage the current one on there. They won't take it apart to look at it. I do have the Seloc or clymers(don't recall which) manual and may attempt to fix it, but I am also seeing that parts for this are very difficult to find from various internet searches.

The issue is this, boat hasn't had operational trim/tilt for 5 years. Owners just left the leg of the motor down and painted it with anti-foulant so that no marine growth would attach. I am told that he replaced the brushes in the motor and he can hear the motor spin, however, nothing else happens. Any thoughts as where to troubleshoot first? If parts are that rare am I better off installing a CMC unit (cost savings over the rebuilt motor and hydraulics?). Biggest issue here is a tight time line. I need to get her in the water in 10 days as he needs his trailer back. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If he had the trim motor out to install new brushes, were the hydrolic lines disconnected as well? If they were diconnected and reconnected it my be just ans simple as bleeding the air out of the system. Others on here can give you some advise on that as I'm not sure how to bleed the air out of your paticular set up.

if its an outboard than check the fluid. check this sight http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury_parts/360.cfm . it has everything on the 115 you can take apart. there is a trim section with a yellow or black fill plug. check this out. make sure that your full of fluid. there sre no hoses between my motor and cylinder. everything is internal between the two. maybe this sight will help.

Stripersonthebeach did you find the problem, i have a 94 mercury with same problem. I hear the motor running but no response out of the lift cyclinder. I was getting the boat ready for fishing and tried to lift the motor and it started lifting up some but very slow, then it quit but motor still ran. ANY IDEA'S. Fluid level is fine. Its has no hoses, it's all one unit bolted together.
