I just took my carb off from over the winter and cleaned and replaced the gaskets. It still runs well on idle and when it's in gear at low speed. with the choke open all the way it won't run at high speed. It just dies. with the choke open only halfway it will run fine at high speed. It wasn't doing this before winter or even since i've had it. i checked the plugs. good. replaced coils and points. good. i'm lost. can someone help? Thanks again everyone.
If you have compression and spark on both cylinders, I would assume that the high speed jet that is located in back of that 7/16" hex/slotted bolt (bolt at lower front of float chamber) is somewhat fouled/clogged.
Remove the carburetor once again and clean that jet thoroughly. Let us know what you find.
I think I fixed it! I adjusted the idle up a little (it was sorta low) and adjusted the lean/rich knob until I could open the choke all the way and now it pulls away at high end! Thanks a bunch guys! It's hard to keep a 40 year old motor running when you don't know that much. Thanks again.
